I love this idea profiled in the Sunday Tribune of fusing together speech with content material. Could potentially catch on in a lot of struggling CPS high schools. After having just read an article on the "7 Skills Students Desperately Need", I think this "learning-by-way-of-speech" competition especially makes sense because it seems to address so many of the 7 skills. Here are the skills:
1. Problem-solving and critical thinking
2. Collaboration across networks and leading by influence
3. Agility and adaptability
4. Initiative and entrepreneurship
5. Effective written and oral communication
6. Accessing and analyzing information
7. Curiosity and imagination

The ability to express oneself in a coherent, intelligent manner has benefits in all aspects of life. Also the confidence it could give youth would make a big difference.
